MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

COVID19 has robbed many students of over a year of school, and even if education has continued virtually for most of them, that in no way can replace the total experience of attending school in person, meeting face to face with friends, engaging directly with students and teachers, and experiencing an education that is tactile, interactive and embodied.

The “Achievement Gap” has always been a huge obstacle to success for many students but add the pandemic and we find that many of our students are “5-9 months behind in Math, 6-11 months for lower income kids, and the same for reading, and 3 million students who just did now show up for virtual school.” That is how former education secretary Margaret Spellings described the crisis. She says what schools need is a triage system.

Project CHANGE has responded to this urgent need by recruiting a dedicated team of volunteers who seek to address these needs by mentoring those students who are struggling the most. As we start our recruitment for the coming service year, we appeal to you to spread the word about the opportunities with AmeriCorps to make a difference when it most counts.
