Project Change is proud to work with partners who host our volunteers. Each of the partner sites are well known and well tested for providing quality work placements and first class supervision. Many of our partners employ former Project Change graduates that helps thicken the tradition and gives the work the feeling of family. Read below who are current partners are.

George B. Thomas Sr. Learning Academy: GBTLA is often called Saturday School and is open to all students in Montgomery County.  The AmeriCorps member is involved in parent outreach and communication with an emphasis on the Latino community which has not yet participated in large numbers in this Saturday learning opportunity. Saturday School is a sixth day of academic instruction with certified teachers in a nurturing and supportive environment. The Curriculum is aligned with that of Montgomery County Public Schools: Grades 1 through 8 focus on reading, language arts and math, Grades 9 through 12 focus on core subjects (English and Math); support for High School Assessments; HSA Bridge support available at select sites. College and career readiness is emphasized.

Montgomery County Public Schools

MCPS -Seven members will serve in the highest needs schools in the County, as determined by the County Superintendent and his team. That means that members serve in the dual immersion programs- English/Spanish in elementary schools, and with the CREA-Career Readiness Education Academy programs at Thomas Edison HS and Senecal Valley HS.  

Montgomery Housing Partnership:  MHP serves more than 1,400 families in Montgomery County. They house people, empower families, and strengthen neighborhoods. Since 1989, Montgomery Housing Partnership’s mission is to preserve and expand quality affordable housing in Montgomery County. They advance their mission through three key strategies; by acquiring, rehabilitating, building and managing quality affordable housing, by developing and implementing community life programs to improve the quality of life and increase opportunities for our residents, and by collaborating with concerned citizens and businesses, public officials and community organizations to build strong, vital neighborhoods. The AmeriCorps members coordinate and supervise preschool and after school programs for students who live in these properties.

YMCA – Youth and Family Services: YMCA Youth & Family Services (YMCA- YFS) is a community-based, comprehensive social services branch of the YMCA Metropolitan Washington. YFS provides school and community-based prevention and early intervention services to at-risk and under-served children and families from across Montgomery County, MD. YFS programs address basic social-service needs, teach fundamental life skills and assist participants in making healthy choices. The YMCA coordinates after-school programs for children, K-12, and members serve as program assistants and coordinators.

Caring Matters–Caring Matters provides caring, compassionate, practical and high-quality, non-medical support services, without charge, to Montgomery County adults and children facing a life-threatening illness or grieving the death of a loved one. Caring Matters envisions a community that accepts death as a part of life; where the processes of dying and grieving are embraced without stigma; where everyone has access to support services without charge; and where no patient dies alone and no one grieves without support.

ACES  Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) is a collaborative effort between Montgomery College, Montgomery County Public Schools, and the Universities at Shady Grove  to support students and provide a seamless path to a bachelor’s degree.  The ACES student support program provides academic coaches to targeted high school students in ten Montgomery County Public High Schools; at all three Montgomery College campus locations; and at the Universities at Shady Grove.  The coaches provide both academic and student support, using a case management approach. Coaches meet individually with students and provide:

Test preparation; Tutoring; Assistance with college applications and financial aid/scholarship applications; College visits; College transfer workshops; Other support services as needed

ACES coaches identify and neutralize barriers to student success that may prevent a student from degree completion.

Gandhi Brigade: The AmeriCorps members at Gandhi Brigade coach teens and young adults in a youth leadership program in which young people of diverse backgrounds, cultures , and abilities transform themselves and their world through media authoring. Participants learn to use media – video, web, photography, and graphic design – to engage, challenge, and repair their community.

Community Bridges: empowers girls from diverse backgrounds to become exceptional students, positive leaders, and healthy young women. We envision an inclusive community where each person is valued and has abundant opportunities to improve themselves and the world around them. The following principles guide all our work. We believe in:

  • Endless Potential: Individuals are encouraged and given opportunities to explore limitless possibilities in order to actualize their dreams.

  • Strength-Focused Thinking: Everyone is in possession of assets that can be mobilized to promote collective action in schools and communities.

  • Resourcefulness: Barriers can be overcome by applying enterprising strategies to define resourceful ways to accomplish goals.

  • Multidimensional Approaches: The world is interconnected and whole-systems thinking ensures the success for those involved.

Two full-time members (FLS) aims to support entire school community, improve classroom management, match students with resources to facilitate academic achievement and create career pathways for motivated high school students.
